Repel piracy risk by robots
With the current sea unrest, many shipbuilding corporations have to pay big fees for hiring ship defense experts.
However, the results were not very satisfactory because the pirates were still attacking the ships and tourists not only by using AK guns and grenades, but also using other advanced weapons.
Robot experts from Recon Robotics have successfully built a robot to prevent security concerns at sea.(Illustration).
Information from the International Maritime Bureau (IMB), said in the first 3 months of 2011 there were 142 pirate cases globally. Among them, 18 passenger ships were attacked, 344 were taken hostage and 6 were kidnapped for ransom. In particular, pirates often target large vessels because they often carry flammable materials such as kerosene, or reactive chemicals that burn with Ak guns and grenades.
From these facts, robot experts from Recon Robotics have successfully built a robot to prevent security concerns at sea. Approximately the size of a can of beer, this robot is attached to the deck with the characteristic of a magnet. At the same time, it also has the function of a gun.
Thanks to the antenna on the top of this robot, experts can remotely control the entry in an emergency and observe the situation on the ship, with the help of an infrared camera. From there, they will know the location of pirates and hostages.
Currently, US Customs is in the process of putting this new robot into the application.
