Resins are soluble in seawater
The resin will dissolve into non-toxic substances when in seawater. It will be used to make disposables such as spatulas, forks, packages, etc., and is an environmentally friendly solution.

"There are many research groups that are making biodegradable plastics, but we are one of the few groups exploring plastics degrading in seawater," said Robson Storey, of Southern Mississippi, USA.
Ocean ships, naval vessels, and other marine facilities often produce large amounts of plastic waste, such as cargo shelves, food boxes, or utensils. This garbage will remain on the ship until the ship dock. Throwing them into the sea would be dangerous to the environment because traditional plastics would take years to decompose and create toxic byproducts.
The new plastic has overcome these disadvantages. When exposed to sea water, it dissolves in just 20 days. The product is made from modified polyurethane, in combination with a biodegradable substance called PLGA, which is used in medical suture.
By changing the chemical structure of the resin, scientists have created a wide variety of materials, from soft and tough to rigid and solid, with wide application potential. After dissolving, they will turn into CO 2 and water, as well as other natural organic chemicals such as lactic acid.
The new plastic is heavier than sea water, so it will sink but not float like the current nylon trash. This will prevent them from drifting into the mainland and polluting the coast.
The product is being tested at university and military laboratories, and the original results are promising. However, it has not been tested in fresh water.
