Revealing the state of people when they are close to death

The survey of Belgian neurologist Steven Laureys and colleagues at Liège University hypothesizes that near-death experience is a state of overwhelming peace.

>>>See what is at the moment of near death?

Laureys, who studies patients with coma or plant condition, has begun a survey of patients who report a near-death situation after he regained consciousness.

Mr. Laurey and colleagues refer to 190 cases recorded undergoing events that cause coma due to cardiac arrest, drowning, head injury. The team used a method of statistical analysis and a measurement tool called a Greyson measure to evaluate the number and intensity of different features in near-death experiences. Scientists were surprised to find that there are many similarities in the mood of these people.

The most important characteristic is that most feel overwhelmed with peace . The next experience is the escape from the body. Many people notice a change in their perception of time. There are very few cases of negative experience and very few people reminisce about the past or imagine the future - the kind of mood that movies in Hollywood often describe. Laurey said: 'It turns out that the experience of death is not so bad!'

The team also tried to find out how to objectively investigate near-death experiences by scanning images of the brains of patients who reported they had experienced near-death after cardiac arrest in search of a possible sign. Remnant stains may reflect incident consequences.

Mr. Laureys said: ' We need to recognize that there are many things we do not know but it is important to apply the best scientific methods we can.'

In the past, some scientists mentioned the near-death stage according to the patients' resurrection after the coma about feeling out of the body, feeling like being in the tunnel of light or reminiscing the past.
