Robot dental patients like real people

The Japanese dental students do not have to worry about having patients to practice because of the 'patient' Showa Hanako 2 looks like a real person.

The Showa Hanako 2 robot, made by researchers at Showa University in Japan, aims to help dental students to practice dental care skills.

Showa Hanako 2 has the ability to cough, sneeze, move the tongue, have some tooth decay, swelling of the gums and even nausea if the dentist puts the instrument too deep in the mouth and has smooth skin. silicon ...

Showa Hanako 2's tongue and arm can be flexible so the robot can mimic the actions of a real patient, feeling restless while the dentist is trying to extract the patient's teeth.

Silicone's skin and tongue help Showa Hanako 2 look real and help prevent water from leaking out inside the robot.

Professor Koutaro Maki, who led the study, said Showa Hanako 2 helps dental students feel like they are working with a real patient.
