Professor - Russian doctor Leonid Averyanov has contributed to finding three new genera belonging to the family Orchidaceae and Araliaceae and discovered 51 new species (49 orchid species), including 10 endemic species of Vietnam.

During 20 years of researching plants in Vietnam, many of Vietnam's forests have imprinted his footsteps like Liem Thuy (Na Ri, Bac Can); Pa Co (Mai Chau, Hoa Binh); Pu Luong and Co Lung Nature Reserve (Ba Thuoc, Thanh Hoa); Pu Huong nature reserve (Con Cuong and Nghe An); Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Binh), Nui Chua National Park (Ninh Thuan), Kon Plong (Kontum), Bat Dai Son Nature Reserve (Quan Ba, Ha Giang).

Many years of attachment, passionate about studying flora in Vietnam, he had acute malaria and once almost lost his life in Khanh Vinh forest (Khanh Hoa). That time, he and a group of Vietnamese scientists went to look for pink comedy orchids. When he only found the leaves of this plant, he had malaria for 3 days and nights and lost consciousness. He had to return to Russia, but only six months later he returned to the right "malevolent forest" to find a date for the comedy and he succeeded.

According to Professor - Dr. Phan Ke Loc, biologist of the Institute of Tropical Biology in Vietnam, Leonid is an expert in Vietnamese orchids in the world.

Professor Leonid is considered one of the top five experts in plants. He has over 200 scientific works, published many books, including a book about Vietnamese comedy and Vietnamese communication. These two books are published in English and Vietnamese.
