Russian scientists have found a way to extract gold from coal

Russian scientists say they are building a coal-based facility in the Far East.

Researchers at the Amur Center for Science and Technology in the Far East have found a way to extract gold from coal. But the process is not as productive as they would like, burning 1 ton of coal produces only 1 gram of gold

"We burn 1 ton of coal and get 1,500 rubles," says Oleg Ageev, director of the Amur Center for Science and Technology Innovation. At the current exchange rate, this amount is equivalent to VND 530,000.

The discovery of gold extraction from coal is the result of 15 years of research in various fields.

In order to extract the gold, the smoke produced during coal combustion is passed through a filter system consisting of hundreds of different layers. The residue is then discharged through a filtration system with water to extract gold.

The scientists plan to test gold-making equipment at one of the Amur boiler facilities next year. They also hope to receive a license to develop and operate an industrial scale device.

"We plan to use the city's boiler facilities to install filter systems, because they burn about 8 to 10 tonnes of coal per season and can produce about 10kg of gold," the team said.

However, the system can not operate until the spring begins because temperatures in the Far East of Russia fall below 0 degrees Celsius in the winter. Part of the gold filtration takes place outdoors and the water used for the system will freeze.
