Samsung successfully developed fuel cells for laptops

Samsung has successfully developed a specialized fuel cell for notebooks, which can last up to twice as long as regular lithium batteries.

This battery is made of a solid fuel methanod block with a capacity of about 200 cm3. Currently this fuel cell can power laptops to operate continuously for about 15 hours.

The fuel cell for Samsung's notebooks is currently superior to the similarly produced fuel cells from Toshiba and NEC, which can only provide a battery capacity of between 100 and 130 watts / hour / liter of fuel. Samsung will commercialize this battery around early 2007 .

Specialist Yoon Seok-Yeol working at Samsung's SDI Research Center said that the new technology to generate hydrogen energy from methanol will provide maximum power at 50 Watt and an average energy of about 20 Watt. .

Samsung batteries are sized: 23 cm long; 8.2 cm wide; 5.3 cm thick and weighs less than 1 kg. It is slimmer and more rugged than its competitors. Samsung has mobilized 40 research experts with a budget of US $ 10 million to successfully implement this project.
