Scary pictures in Hawaii crater

The drone of American scientists has recorded scary images of the active Kilauea crater in Hawaii, USA.

According to the Daily Mail, the unmanned flight was conducted by the US Geological Survey (USGS) to check the activity of Halemaumau Crater of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii.

The flight at a height of 1,800m above sea level collected images of a deep crater with steep cliffs around.

The research team estimates that Halemaumau can be up to 300m deep. It is worth mentioning that, in just 2 weeks, this crater has been deepened by 100m due to the complicated geological activities in the area.

Scientists are investigating further to explore possible scenarios for this crater as well as preparing a plan to cope with a bad situation.

In the same study, the scientists witnessed a lava eruption of up to 53m from the Fissure 8 spray hole near the eastern rift area - which has continuously undergone volcanic activity since 1983.

The team estimates that this spray hole " releases" an average of 100 cubic meters of lava per second, equivalent to a capacity of 45,400 Olympic standard pools.

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world with about 34 eruptions since 1952.

The most recent eruption caused about 2,000 people to evacuate, destroying more than 600 houses. It also made the largest freshwater lake in Hawaii evaporate after only a few hours.
