According to a Russian expert, along with dolphins and sea lions, seals can be a " warrior " useful in the fight against terrorism.
"Marine animals possess the ability to locate aquatic organisms and technical equipment right under conditions of natural and artificial noise, and in complicated sea conditions. this is the only one they have, "said Gennady Matishov, director of the Murmansk Marine Biology Research Institute. He has been involved in researching the usefulness of marine animals in Russia since 1984.
Since 2004, a number of seals have been deployed in an area near the Barents coast and Matishov's team has conducted training for this group of seals. They can now support task forces in the fight against underwater terrorism. According to Matishov, these " warriors " can serve in the military for 15-20 years, much longer than human " colleagues ".
