Self-cleaning toilet on board Boeing

According to Boeing, this self-cleaning system can "disinfect" all surfaces after each use in just 3 seconds. Boeing believes that this self-cleaning technology combined with unmanned features will enhance the experience of passengers on commercial flights.

According to The Verge, the Boeing room prototype uses FUV ultraviolet light and is activated only when no user is available. FUV has a wavelength of 122 to 200nm, much shorter than that of UVA or UVB and is not harmful to humans. These ultraviolet lamps will be placed around the washroom so that they can be touched up to frequently used areas such as toilets, wash basins and hand surfaces.

This self-cleaning system can also remove unpleasant odors.

The system will automatically light up and start cleaning every time someone comes out of the bathroom. In addition to bactericidal properties, this system can also remove unpleasant odors.

"We are trying to appease our customers' concerns when using the toilet in the airplane," a Boeing representative said. With the new method, UV light will destroy all microorganisms by causing them to explode. It is compatible with the resonant frequency of the molecular bonds on the outside of the bacteria.

Self-cleaning toilet designs also include automatic faucets, soap dispensers, trash cans and hand dryers. The toilet door can also be opened by itself, a vacuum tube system is being studied to ensure that the restroom stays clean after every use.

Test results show that Boeing's self-cleaning toilet UV technology reduces the spread of pathogenic microorganisms. The company is also applying for a patent for the new technology.
