Shock: Discovering a record family of 13 million people

Geneticists from the United States have created the largest genealogical tree from 13 million people on the basis of genomic sites. This study involves millions of families in Europe and North America.

Scientists used the database of this site to create a genealogical tree, at about the time of the study there were about 86 million records.

After receiving the data, geneticists created about 5 million genealogical plants , including 13 million people from 11 generations, living in the period from 1650-2000.

Huge genealogical tree.

Such a large family tree has allowed scientists to analyze human changes from generation to generation.

For example, women move more often than men, but men often go further, sometimes even to other countries. The search for partners is also affected by the development of traffic: if before the 1800s people chose couples from those who lived within an 8km radius, then in 1950 the coverage expanded to 100km.

Previously, marriage between relatives stopped at the beginning of the nineteenth century, but the genealogical tree shows that this tradition survived for at least 50 years.

The authors also calculated that aging by genetic factors accounted for only 16% - everything else depends on the environment and lifestyle.
