Siberia farms grow vegetables from Africa and South Asia

Perhaps the next encyclopedia of botany must be rewritten. Siberian scientists have found a way to make tropical vegetables adapt to the cold climate of Russia. The experiments conducted confirmed that some tropical plants are fully capable of adapting to the cold, harsh climatic conditions.

The Russian pharmaceutical industry will be provided with valuable new pharmaceuticals. Breeders said bitter bitter melon, African thorny cucumber, cowpea, as well as South Asian zucchini can be used in healing dishes.

At the Central Botanic Garden of Siberia's Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk scientists are working to "relocate" into Russian soil exotic plants. Now the plant sector will have a completely new judgment on the development of these plant varieties. Russian biologists have tested the adaptive properties of plants and have new visions of acceptable conditions for these varieties.

This is also a pharmaceutical experiment. These tropical fruits and vegetables will be used in therapeutic diets, medicine and functional foods.

"After a series of trials, four crops have been officially registered and recommended for planting in Russia," said senior researcher at the Center for Botanical Garden Yuri Fotev. They are bitter melon, cowpea, zucchini and African spiny melon. The cousin with this cucumber can be stored at room temperature for about half a year. Mr. Yuri Fotev said, through experiment, African thorny cucumber has shown its high adaptability. All three strange vegetables can be grown in greenhouses, particularly the thorny cucumber species can be grown in the field.

All four plants have a therapeutic value.

Cowpea is rich in protein, like all beans. This vegetable can be used in diet menus, said Yuri Fotev. Tea made from dried pea pods is very useful for diabetics to lower blood sugar levels. This tea is also used to treat liver, kidney and heart diseases.

Experiments have been applied in practice. South Siberia farmers claim that cowpea is perfectly suitable for their home climate conditions. Gardeners in Novosibirsk are also very interested in cowpea.

Cucumbers are rich in vitamin C and B vitamins, potassium, iron, copper, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus, are a high value food.

Siberia scientists claim that bitter melon is highly curative, balances blood pressure and treats hypertension.

Now breeders are "relocating" thorny melon varieties in Siberia. This round melon is softer and sweeter than normal cucumbers, with a high content of mineral salts. "We will develop this vegetable for people with heart disease and stomach pain , " said Yuri Fotev.

The next step is to twist Trihozant, which is used in Chinese folk medicine to make medicine.
