Simple way to combat stress only

Phones are one of the most stressful agents in our lives.

When we see the phone blinking, or vibrating in our pockets, we have been distracted a bit. You can choose to take the phone to check, or try to focus on the work. However, the heartbreaking fact is that most of us will need about 25 minutes to focus again.

So, placing a phone next to you is the perfect way to have a working day . extremely inefficient. And when you can't do anything for a whole day, the stress will increase, pent up and cause serious consequences.

When we see the phone blinking, or vibrating in our pockets, we are already distracted.

So affordable, we just need to simply turn off the phone? But unfortunately this is counterproductive because your psychology will feel more anxious than usual when there is no "mobile phone" beside.

That is the conclusion of Nick Fitz - a researcher from Duke University (USA) when announcing new works at the conference of the American Psychological Association. And in addition, he also offers an extremely wonderful solution that anyone can do.

But first, let's see what your research is!

We are receiving too many announcements during the day

Previous studies have shown that an average person receives about 65 to 80 messages from smartphones every day, even more.

Realizing this problem, Fitz tried an experiment. Within 2 weeks, the process of using smartphones of 3 groups will be recorded. A group will adjust the phone to update the notification by hour; one group only has 3 hours to receive notifications: 9am, 3pm and 9pm; The last group completely blocked notifications on the phone.

Disabling the outgoing message has no effect.

During the period of not updating, users can use the phone but will not receive any notifications. Even if there is a phone, although the signal is still available, the screen will not display a "missed call" message.

What about the results? Unexpectedly, the group received a notification every hour sharing that they felt tired, annoying, and inefficient.

But more impressive, even turning off the message completely is counterproductive. Accordingly, the group who turned off the message seemed to seek a way to test the phone intentionally, fearing that they would miss important announcements.

According to Fitz, if the phone has a mechanism to allow the boss's email or important news to appear, their mood may be different. However, in his experiment, the group that was updated with the announcement on 3 frames of the day was the most beneficial. They feel more comfortable, work more effectively, and have a higher concentration.

"Turning off notifications doesn't work. We should take them in a smarter way."

The most optimal way to relieve stress from your phone is to reduce the time it takes to receive notifications again

According to Fitz, instead of completely eliminating the message, the most optimal is to determine the time period we should receive them.

"It will be better if the announcements arrive at the right time" - Fitz said.

A mechanism should be created that allows particularly important information to pass.

At the same time, Fitz thinks that a mechanism should be created that allows particularly important information to pass. For example, the mechanism allows email to pass, but notifications from Facebook are blocked, or only updated at certain time frames, for example.

What surprised Fitz most was that it was clear from the phone that only part of the stressors were present. However, eliminating its harm makes our mood much more relieved.

"It really works."

Currently, Fitz's team, called Synapse, is building an application that allows you to adjust messages from your phone. Application named Daywise and will be announced in the near future. The bad news, however, is that it only works on machines running Android , because controlling notifications from iOS is much more complicated.
