Sleeping 6 months on the sofa: The life of a young girl completely changed
The 22-year-old English girl, Beth Goodier, had Kleine-Levin syndrome; a syndrome with a sleepy expression in those who encounter it.
The 22-year-old Beth Goodier should have finished college and started her job. With impressive transcripts, confidence, and sociable cheerfulness, she deserves a brilliant future with many successes in life.
However, before her 17th birthday in November, 5 years ago, Beth fell asleep - and didn't wake up completely until 6 months later. For 6 months, this young girl slept 22 hours a day and only woke up to eat and drink, as well as personal hygiene.
Most of the time, Beth was just sleeping.
Within 5 years, Beth's mother, Jannie, calculated that her daughter's sleep time must account for three-quarters of the total time. Beth is now 22 and is one of more than 100 people in the UK diagnosed with Kleine-Levin syndrome - the "sleeping beauty" syndrome .
However, that name seems a bit far away from reality when their lives are more difficult than ordinary people. Usually, this syndrome will appear in adolescents - usually age 16, and last for 13 years.
At this point, Beth had sleep about 2 1/2 months. Nothing, from medicine, loud noise or waking up can wake up this young girl. Most of the time, Beth is always available in pajamas, sleeping in a bed or sofa. Another time, when she went to see a doctor at Stockport, Cheshire, Beth had to be in a wheelchair on the way home because she was too tired to move.
This young girl had to quit school because of the "sleeping beauty" syndrome.
"It's like day and night," Beth's mother said. "She can wake up in the morning and race again with time to live her normal life. It quickly catches up with friends, eats, makes hair . No one knows it will be sleepy again. at any time ".
"The worst thing is that she's sometimes not aware of everything," Jannie said. "When it woke up a few hours a day, it was unclear where he was and became crisis." People with this KL syndrome not only feel confused but also change their personality when they are separated from the society for some time.
Her 25-year-old boyfriend is an elementary school teacher.
The most difficult stage for Beth is when friends graduate from high school and go to college, while Beth doesn't know anything. That hurt it. Even Beth had to abandon her studies and her mother had to quit her job to stay at home to look after her children.
Currently, doctors are still finding solutions to end this "sleeping beauty" syndrome.
