Smart dogs help patients

Milo, a specially trained poodle has changed the life of a young girl with epilepsy.

Hannah Baker, 20, from Dedham (Essex, England), suffers from quite severe epilepsy after being diagnosed with a benign tumor at 6 years old. Milo, trained by Support Dogs charity to help detect changes in Hannah's skin or pupils before she has a seizure. Milo would then stare at Hannah until she knew there was something wrong with her.

Milo warned Hannah about 8-10 minutes before she had a seizure and then she sat on the ground or leaned back against the wall to avoid the danger of a seizure. Milo stayed by her side until she regained consciousness.

Before having Milo by her side, Hannah often experienced 80 seizures every day. Currently she only has seizures about 10 times / day, and most are small.'Milo has brought a great change to my life and my family , ' Hannah said.

Mother Hannah Nicola Baker, confided: "I had to take care of Hannah every minute, but now I only have to keep an eye on her about 6 times a day, this is really a big change."

Hannah said she is now more confident in her daily activities such as going for a walk or going to the movies. All thanks to Milo.
