Software to manage and look up plant diversity in Vietnam

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Sinh, Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has built PlantsVN software.

The purpose of this software is to assist researchers who are interested in storing, managing systematically and searching Vietnamese flora, and providing a search engine. and identify the family of angiosperms.

The product has been tested on WindowsXP operating system. The theoretical basis for PlantsVN software based on the latest published source of documents: "List of Vietnamese plants" and the book "Search handbook and identification of closed seed families in Vietnam" .

PlantsVN software allows users to create data banks to manage plant diversity data of a geographic unit or an individual. The product also helps users to search and identify family of angiosperm species of Vietnam, and perform plant diversity statistics for selected groups or the entire data bank.

The flora of Vietnam is very rich, so remembering plants is very complicated. The systematic management and storage of plant species will positively support the access to the diversity of a flora in general and the flora of Vietnam in particular. In addition, species identification for newly encountered species is essential to increase understanding of plant species.
