Steps for transplanting the human brain

The human brain is thought to be implanted with another body in the future.

>>>Can humans live only with the brain, without the body?

Dr. Robert White, professor of neurosurgery at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, USA, believes that human brain transplantation will be done in the future. Currently many brain transplant experiments have been successful in higher animals such as monkeys. The brain is kept in the skull before being implanted into the new monkey.

Unfortunately, the spinal cord is severed when performing surgery on humans, the transfer brain does not control the nervous system on the body, immune problems and implant removal are also a concern. afraid.

People who are paralyzed from the neck down due to spinal injury hope someday the nerves in their spine are resumed.

To perform this surgery, scientists need to have an implant. Patients who need paralysis from the neck down, face multi-organ failure , they will die shortly. The body of a donor comes from a person who died from a brain injury. Their bodies maintain their activity through respiratory support, heart support, and life maintenance.

Professor White said the steps of the transplant process are 11 steps:

First , bring two patients into a special operating room, equipped with the necessary equipment and machinery.

Secondly , two groups of surgeons are specially trained to improve their skills. Two surgical patients at the same time.

Third , both patients are equipped with a range of devices that monitor the brain, heart rate, and blood pressure. The most important measurement is done in the brain area.

Fourth , the surgical procedure is done first in the neck. An incision into tissues including skin and muscles. This stage succeeds in maintaining the arteries and spine.

Fifth , scientists will separate the head from the spine, exposing the spinal cord and its coatings. The doctor will use screws fastening the spine to the head at the time of transplant.

Sixth , the surgeon is on the blood vessels, this is the most dangerous part because the brain can only function for a very short period of time without adequate blood supply. Temporary anticoagulants are added to the patient's blood vessels, making the circuit process continuous.

Seventh , a machine that supports brain circulation rapidly cools the brain, maintained at 12 degrees Celsius, helps protect the brain for more than an hour if blood circulation is completely broken.

Eighth , blood vessels are arranged so that blood circulation passes from the body to the recipient's head.

Ninth , blood vessels and nerves between the two bodies join together. Neural signals can be exchanged between the recipient's brain and the new body.

Tenth , the tissues and skin in the neck are stitched. Patients move into a separate care environment. The biggest concern during this time is the problem of infection, removal of implant tissue, support of blood circulation. Patients need regular respiratory support and nourish with special measures.

The last step is, when the patient's consciousness returns, the patient's brain works normally. They can hear, look, taste, smell, think, and their memories are preserved intact.
