The US Geological Survey (USGS) assessed the magnitude of the earthquake as 7 on the Richter scale. There is no information about human damage and damage after the earthquake. The Japan Meteorological Agency added that no tsunami warnings were issued.

The earthquake in early afternoon on January 1 caused many houses in Tokyo to sway. However, it does not disrupt the finals of the Emperor Cup football tournament that is taking place at the national stadium. Trains and flights in and around Tokyo are unaffected.

"Some people on the road don't know the earthquake has just happened," said a spokeswoman for Tokyo Disneyland theme park, adding that all activities at the park still happen normally. This person did not give a specific number of visitors to the park today, but only made estimates of several tens of thousands of people.

Emperor Akihito yesterday called on the people of this country to work together to rebuild the country after the tsunami earthquake in March 2011."Our country is going through a difficult period because of the tsunami earthquake and many other weak factors," Emperor Huang said. "But I hope that the hearts of the Japanese people will always be aware of the current situation, and everyone will persist together to build a brighter tomorrow."

Wishes for the country's recovery appear everywhere in Japan at the time of the 2012 new year. Tens of thousands of people have flocked to temples to pray for the good of the new year.

A strong 9-magnitude earthquake on March 11, 2011 occurred in northeastern Japan, accompanied by a tsunami with waves as high as 15 meters. About 19,000 people were killed and missing. This double disaster also led to a nuclear crisis at the Fukushima I factory, leaving hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes to evacuate.
