Currently, the invasion of giant goldfish is taking place increasingly fiercely at the Vasse River, south of Perth, Australia.
Usually, indoor ornamental goldfish usually only have a maximum body length of 5cm. But the mutant population of goldfish living in the Vasse River is up to 40cm long and weighs about 2kg each.
It is known that these giant goldfish are common aquarium fish. After being released to the natural world by the owner, they have "developed" by eating too many eggs of other fish and algae in the river.
A group of scientific researchers from Murdoch University of Veterinary and Science, Perth, said that over the past decade, they have migrated more than 1,600 giant goldfish out of the area and controlled their growth rate. According to Professor Stephen Beatty, the Vasse giant goldfish can grow up to 18cm in just the first year.
Today, this huge goldfish flock to the Wilyabrup Brook area, near the city of Busselton. And more frighteningly, they can attack further into the saltwater area, although this species is known to survive only in freshwater environments.
