An American F-22 fighter plane flew over the speed of sound with biofuels, marking an important milestone towards the goal of cost savings and environmental protection.
The experiment took place last week, the fuel mixing ratio is 50/50, the mixture includes JP-8 oil and biofuels. This type of biofuel is extracted from the seed of the Camelina family (also known as rapeseed) and is not used for food.

The flight was the result of a series of ground tests, and was carried out by members of Flight No. 414. Testing with F-22 was part of the biofuel use plan for US air force fighter aircraft.
The objective of the inspection to assess the suitability of biofuels with F-22 weapon systems. Tests include: take-off capability, increased performance, performance at different speeds. The F-22 made a high-speed flight at 40,000 feet and reached a speed of Mach-1.5 without using the combustion chamber twice, according to Defense Talk.
Officials said the flight was successful and this was an important event for the biofuel utilization plan in 2016 to save costs and protect the environment.
Earlier, the US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft was also tested with biofuels and produced very positive results.
