AFP quoted the Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency announcement, according to a newly approved law, every company, nonprofit organization, school must organize environmental lessons in the minimum time. 4 hours per year. Establishments that violate the law will be closed. The law was issued to protect the fragile environment of the island.

Taiwan officials said the new law would bring the island's environmental protection into a new era.

For years Taiwan has been promoting the development and application of clean technologies to reduce CO2 emissions. Last year the island's legislature passed a law on renewable energy. Under that law, Taiwan will try to produce 6,500-10,000 MW of electricity from renewable energy in the next 20 years. Currently renewable energy sources provide 2,278 MW of electricity to the island.
