Brazilian scientists find the substance that helps wounds heal faster in the peel of the pineapple is often removed.

Pineapple bark contains an enzyme called bromelain . Bromelain can break down proteins and eliminate dead skin cells. "It removes the upper layer, meaning the dead part of the wound, enabling surface oxidation to take place, helping the wound to heal , " said Professor Priscila Mazzola.

The team extracted bromelain from pineapple and then combined it with nanocellulose , a strong and transparent material. This mixture forms a durable tape that heals wounds and prevents infection.

Pineapple shells are abundant and can be recreated, making the cost of producing new tapes quite cheap.

According to scientists, nanocellulose can be used to replace future body parts.
