The 40-meter asteroid is about to fly over the Earth

Small-sized asteroids 2018 CBs will approach Earth with much smaller distances than the Moon.

Asteroids 2018 15-meter-sized CB will cross the Earth at a distance of 63,000km, less than one-fifth of the distance from Earth to the Moon on February 10, Mirror reported.

This is the second time of the week that is closer than the Moon. Previously, the asteroid named 2018 CC also came close to Earth on February 7, about 183,000km away. Astronomers estimate the diameter of 2018 CC is from 15 - 30m, equivalent to asteroid 2018 CB.

"2018 CB is quite small but it may still be bigger than the meteorite that once entered the atmosphere above Chelyabinsk, Russia, 2013. These asteroids of this size usually do not get close to Earth, perhaps only 1-2 once a year, " said Paul Chodas, manager at the Research Center at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
