The 450-year-old mummy is clutching an old and dilapidated letter, the content inside makes posterity dumbfounded
When the letter was read, everyone was deeply moved, 450 years have passed and it is indeed a memoir with great spiritual value.
In Korea in 1998, the Jeongsang-dong area of Andong City, Gyeongsangbuk Province was designated as a new residential area. Along with this decision, some derelict graves around here will be moved to another place. And in the process, people accidentally discovered a tomb containing mummies and many burial items. Looking at the condition of the coffin is still quite good, so the tomb is estimated to be recent. However, that is not the case.
When researching, archaeologists found a letter inside the tomb. Based on the Hangeul script and its contents, the identity of the mummy inside and the 450-year-old age of the ancient tomb were determined.
Some of the burial items found inside the ancient tomb are now on display at the Andong University museum
The mummy inside is that of a man named Eung Tae. His family consists of 4 people, Mr. Eung Tae and his wife, one child and the child in his wife's belly. At that time, an infectious disease was raging in the area and claimed many lives. Mr. Eung Tae is no exception, he got sick and had to say goodbye to his wife and children at the age of 31.
When he found his mummy, the letter he kept close to him made many people curious. After research, it was determined that the handwritten letter was written in 1586 on Hanji paper, a traditional Korean paper, 58cm wide and 34cm long.
It was written by his wife Eung Tae. Calling her husband "Father Won", the woman who sent her emotional feelings for her husband is now gone. The letter expresses the pain when yin and yang are separated, sympathy and pity for myself and my two children. The wife is now a widow and the child is an orphan.
The state of the letter after 450 years
Not only reminded of the beautiful memories of both when he was still alive, in the letter she also blamed him for many things, she blamed him for promising to live together until old age and then suddenly leaving his wife and children. But that's the blame, at the end of the letter she was still weak and begged him to come back to her in dreams. "Every time we lay down together, he always said to me, 'Do other people appreciate and love each other like we do? How could you leave all that behind and go before me? "
Every sentence she wrote down was imbued with intense grief and sadness, moving readers to tears. The sincerity that they have for each other is certainly very sincere, deep, and perhaps his sudden departure has made her so depressed that she seems unable to recover.

Inside the coffin is a pair of Joseon era hemp sandals (also known as Mituri sandals). When she was alive, "baby Won's mother" braided these sandals with her own hair with the wish that her husband would struggle to fight the disease and get well soon. However, Won's father never had the opportunity to try on those precious sandals. After her husband died, she wrote a letter to him and buried it and the sandals with it as a keepsake.
