The aquarium allows the fish to 'swim' in the room

Dutch researchers have developed a remote, wheeled aquarium, which allows live fish to navigate their own home.

According to the inventors, the new tank uses a camera to analyze the swimming direction of the fish and to control the wheels moving there.

Researcher Thomas de Wolf from Studio Diip (the Netherlands) says he and his colleagues have come up with the idea of developing a "driving device " for demonstrating the capabilities of observational technology. by computer . They want to prove that even animals can control these technologically advanced devices.

The first prototype of the device, "personal driver", composed a standard webcam, a battery-powered circuit board and a car BeagleBoard Arduino robotics controller. Using the contrast of the fish with the bottom of the tank, the position of the fish is determined and used to send commands to the Arduino computer control panel to move the entire vehicle in that direction.

"The ornamental fish are always confined to the aquarium, and in an effort to release these creatures around the world, the first self-driving fish tank was born. Moving vehicles are limited to humans (except for a few automobiles controlled by computers), but your aquariums can also be directly navigable, " said the statement. Studio Diip Company.

The team revealed that their anomaly device is currently under construction and will have to improve further before launching a call for mass production. They do not know whether or not the ornamental fish are aware of their new "driving" abilities.
