The best way to wear a medical mask to prevent Wuhan pneumonia
Facemasks must cover the nose and mouth, when worn, do not touch, use only once and then throw in the trash with a lid.
Dr. Tran Thu Nguyet, Department of Communications, Ministry of Health, said that the common non-woven medical mask has 3 layers with different uses.
- The outer layer has waterproof properties, effectively preventing the liquid particles from being splashed when the patient sneezes, coughs, breathes hard . The outside surface is usually light blue for easy identification, wearing a proper mask. is for the color layer to spin out.
- The inner layer is always white, very easy to distinguish from the outer layer. The face of the cloth turns inwards, close to the skin of the face, so it must be pure and smooth, without fiber fibers causing discomfort. In addition, it must be waterproof to sweat to create comfort for the user.
- The middle layer prevents particles from splashing and must filter dust and bacteria. This is the layer that determines the quality of the mask. A "right" filter layer must allow air to pass easily, creating a sense of ventilation for users, but must have a structure sufficient to filter out particles of microscopic dust and bacteria.
"Using a proper medical mask will prevent large droplets of virus-containing saliva from being spread from an infected person by sneezing or coughing, which will effectively prevent the virus," said Dr. Nguyet.
According to Dr. Nguyet, using a medical mask properly is only used once and then thrown into a safe, covered trash. Do not reuse disposable masks .
When wearing a mask to let the blue face out due to the blue side is waterproof, large droplets of saliva shot will not penetrate inside. The white side has a hygroscopic nature, so it goes back inside, letting the breath escape into the mask.
Masks must cover both the nose and mouth. When wearing a mask, do not touch it, because touching the hand, even editing the mask will unknowingly spread the hand to the virus and other pathogens, then transmit the disease to yourself and those around.
When removing the mask, only hold the strap by the ear, remove it for safe disposal in the trash. Never use the handle to remove the mask. The habit of covering your hands with a mask will infect the virus and other hand pathogens.
Hands should be washed with soap and clean water immediately after discarding a mask.
How to wear a standard mask as directed by the Ministry of Health.
According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), one of the criteria for evaluating mask quality is "Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE). Facemasks are classified as "medical masks" when they have BFE> 95% . The difference between the main mask types is that this filter layer, choosing a good mask is the one that has the highest BFE. A mask with a BFE> 99% is the best choice.
Corona virus with the size of about 150-200 nm (nano meters) and Influenza A influenza virus have the size of 80-120nm (nano meters), these viruses mainly reside in large drops of saliva.
A 2013 study found that large droplets range in size from about 75 to 360 micro meters (1 micro meter = 1000 nano meters), so they can easily be trapped by regular medical masks with the ability to effective filtration of particles sized over 5 micro meters.
Former General Director of Preventive Medicine Tran Dac Phu said that the medical masks are usually capable of preventing nCoV virus pneumonia.
"A regular medical mask is enough to prevent respiratory infections, including pneumonia. Wear a mask when contacting people with fever, cough, shortness of breath, or suspected pneumonia. or when in hospitals and places suspected of an epidemic , " Mr. Phu said.
