The bright columns pierced through the sky like a UFO appeared

The moment a series of colorful bright columns appeared in the far north into the lens of a Canadian photographer.

Photographer Ray Majoran recorded the straight rise from the ground to the air outside his home in Ontario, Canada, Business Insider yesterday reported.

When cold air flows down from the North Pole, flat ice crystals form in the air and float. Any light source reflecting these crystals will create a brilliant display of colorful glow columns called light pillar . The appearance of bright columns in the south is so rare that people often mistake them for the sight of UFOs appearing.

On a late evening in January, Majoran received a message with a photo of the sky from a friend. He immediately took the camera and drove along the main highway to search for bright columns. At first, when looking at the sky, Majoran only saw the dark night. " Then it happened. The sky was glowing by bright columns. There are high stars and tiny ice crystals like falling from heaven , " Majoran recalls.

Majoran got off the bike, set up the camera stand and took photos of the sky for two hours."The scene is like something you can only see in movies or science fiction programs , " Majoran said.

When Majoran drove by, the pillars of light from the headlights went straight to the sky. The crystals reflect natural and artificial light. The light column has the color of the reflected object. Streetlight creates a bright yellow and orange column.

According to Majoran, bright columns are brilliant enough to be taken with a phone. But he uses a dedicated camera on a stand and chooses the optimal setting for long exposure to produce a sharper image.
