The domain name '.eu' is about to go into operation
Next week, the domain name ".eu" is officially put into use in Europe, and is considered to be of equal importance to ".com".
Registration of the ".eu" domain name will be allocated according to the specific route. Next week, registration rights are provided only to large corporations that want to register trademarks, and public organizations.
After that (from February 7, 2006), companies and business names will be registered; and finally the right to register the ".eu" domain name will be provided to all individuals and organizations in the 25 member states of the EU. The domain name ".eu" will not replace national domain names such as ".uk", ".fr" and ".de".
Currently, the domain name ".eu" has been activated but only a few organizations have the right to register, including EURid (www.EURid.eu) - a European domain name management organization. The official website of the EU (www.europa.eu) will be operational from April 7, 2006.
