The giant jellyfish washed over the English coast
The people of Portland Island, Dorset (England) have found a giant jellyfish with a diameter of about 1m drifting to the beach. This signaled a large amount of jellyfish will invade British beaches in the future.
The jellyfish was found to be about 1 meter in size, one of the first offshore creatures to drift off the English coast this summer.
Suzanne Sheldon (48), who discovered the jellyfish, said: 'I was walking on the beach with my dog to discover it. Its size is quite large and looks very bulky. That's the biggest jellyfish I've ever seen. '
The appearance of a giant jellyfish is said to signal a 'invasion' of jellyfish to the UK in the coming time when the weather is warmer. Richard Harrington, a member of the Marine Conservation Association (MSC), said: 'The arrival of the jellyfish shows that the weather will be hotter in the future. This also means more jellyfish will appear on the west coast. "
'The jellyfish species, though harmless, can increase their numbers rapidly when the sea temperature rises. This is a Atlantic jellyfish and sometimes drifted to the coast. Everyone should be careful not to touch it , 'he added.
Experts warn that even though the jellyfish is harmless, seafarers should be wary of other jellyfish. They can sting anyone who touches it. People should go to health facilities when they are stung by jellyfish.
