Indian police found an 8-year-old girl living with wild monkeys in remote areas near Nepal's border.
She was dubbed the "Mowgli girl" , named after the boy raised by the wolf in the Jungle Book, adapted from the work of the same name by Indian writer Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).
She was discovered by woodworkers, then police officer Suresh Yadav rescued her in February, at the Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary, in Bahraich, northern India. At that time, she moved with 4 limbs and just screamed.
After a while in the hospital, she was able to use her hands to hold food.(Photo: Cover Asia Press / Rajiv Sharma).
According to Inspector Ram Avtar Singh at Motipur police station, Bahraich, when discovered, she was living very comfortably with monkeys. Police officers were attacked by monkeys trying to rescue her."At that time, the baby looked quite weak, hungry, was injured and seemed to be very afraid of us. She wore clothes but did not get dirty, it seemed to be abandoned by her family. They will become prey for predators ".
Mr. DK Singh, the director of the hospital where she is being treated, said that she is easily agitated, afraid of meeting other people, regularly moving with 4 limbs and eating directly on the floor by mouth.
However, after a period of care, she began to walk as usual, eating by hand and laughing. She could not speak, but could understand what others said.
Indian authorities are still trying to find information about her as the name, country, and time to live with the monkeys.
