The idea of collecting milk cans is rewarded with the environment
The project collects used milk cartons for delivery to a recycling factory as the roof of a group of Vietnamese students who have surpassed nearly 400 Asian youths to receive environmental awards in Singapore.
The conference for young people called "Actions for Earth", which took place in Singapore, attracted 450 students and students from 13 countries, bringing together initiatives and solutions to protect the environment.
The organizers asked groups of students from each country to propose ideas for environmental protection and to present their projects to compete for prizes worth SGD 2,500 (VND 41 million). Surprisingly, the idea of collecting paper milk cans of Vietnamese students surpassed the teams to win the first prize.
Sharing about the project of the group, Dang Minh Hang, 12th grade specialist Anh, Tran Phu, Hai Phong, said that the idea of collecting her milk box started from watching a television newsletter about a business. The next day, the group arranged the content to present the idea within 1 minute according to the organizers' regulations and was fortunate to reach the 2nd round with a 3-minute presentation time.
"My group only had time to discuss for 1 hour before going to round 2, this is the round of decision", Hang said and said, including the time when she came up with the idea until the project and finished the presentation. less than 12 hours.
The project of the Vietnamese student group mentioned activities of collecting discarded milk shells from households. The initial project cost is only 1,800 USD in 3 months in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the cost to buy bags and distribute to each household to store milk cans and support the young people to collect. The team will call for volunteers to collect shells via Facebook and coordinate with supporting dairy companies such as people to deliver boxes.
"Vietnam has 1 million cans of milk consumed in a month, if there is good communication, in the future we can recycle all of this quantity" , Dang Minh Hang said.
Assessing the ability to win prizes, Minh Hang said that the project of the group with high scores could be a simple and practical idea. The prize money will be deducted as part of charity and to cover the project activities.
As a speaker of the project in English before the jury and hundreds of international youths, Bui Thi Ngoc Hoa, 11th grade, Tran Phu school, shared, I feel confident about the idea of the group. After the presentation, have you asked me to clarify why the milk can make the roof. And the reason I give is that the inner layer of milk carton is aluminum so it is quite stable, the recycling business has confirmed that the roof can be sustainable for 10 years.
"After this conference, I want to give a message to protect the environment, I want to have more environmental protection activities for young people. Besides, I want people to believe in the ideas and abilities of students. Vietnam, " said Ngoc Hoa.
