The massive attack collapsed millions of blogs
LiveJournal's 10 million personal blogs and TypePad were taken offline for many hours yesterday - the result of a massive denial of service attack.
Source: SecurityLabs
The attack began around 4 pm (PDT time), targeting the two most popular blogging services currently available, along with the Provider's Website, Six Apart. According to Vice President Six Apart, Mr. Anil Dash, the service has returned to normal after midnight.
" Any big service is often attacked, but with the scale like this, I bet no one expects it ," he said.
Six Apart intends to report the case to authorities, such as the FBI, but so far, they have not done so. " We have not had time to think about the next step ," Dash said. Every effort at this time of the company focused on the remedial consequences that the attack caused.
There is an abnormality in this DDoS attack, because Six Apart is not a big online business - the preferred and frequent target of large-scale attacks.
Previously, Six Apart was also attacked, but only sporadic cases aimed at content that some of the blogs directly posted.
Six Apart also intends to compensate users but how specific is not decided yet.
At the end of last year, when it encountered some problems in service, it let customers decide on the form of compensation. " We will do everything for our customers ," Dash said.
