The meteorite is as big as a mountain rushing towards Earth

This large-sized meteorite is flying towards the Earth, there may not be a collision but it is still subject to observation.

The meteorite, named 52768 (1998 IR2) , was first discovered by scientists 22 years ago. According to the meteorite observation site of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) of NASA, the meteorite will reach Earth on April 29.

Meteors come close, even flying into the Earth's atmosphere is normal. However, only meteors with a diameter of several kilometers can be dangerous.

52768 (1998 IR2) will probably graze the Earth at the closest distance of about 6.3 million km at a speed of more than 31,000 km / h. JPL estimates the diameter of the meteorite can reach 4.1 km, which is equivalent to a high mountain on Earth. This size and distance are sufficient to classify meteors 52768 as "potentially dangerous" and need monitoring.

"We discovered the asteroids last month when installing new computational data and analytical equipment, speeding up the search for objects near the Earth. This shows their efforts in searching. I have paid off, " said JPL's Steven Pravdo, the JPL's near-Earth tracking asteroid project project on Fox News.

This project tracks many meteors, asteroids approaching the Earth. In fact, in a month, there may be over 10 meteors approaching the Earth. However, most fly across our planet hundreds of thousands of kilometers away, and if they are directed towards Earth, they will also be burned when flying through the upper atmosphere.

However, large objects that are not burned will cause a catastrophic disaster if they collide with "green planets". According to calculations, collisions with objects larger than 1km have the potential to cause global impact.

Earlier, NASA had tracked the 2002 PZ39 meteorite nearly 1 km in diameter, rushing towards Earth at 57,240 km / h, approaching our planet in mid-February 2020. In addition, a 77 m diameter meteorite called 2020 BQ11 flew past us on February 8, the distance to the Earth is 4.8 million km.

Over the next few years, NASA may introduce a type of interceptor called the DART . This spacecraft will be launched into objects at risk of collision with the Earth in order to change their orbits.
