The new technique doubles the chance of having a baby by IVF
British scientists have developed a new DNA testing technique that allows the removal of malformed embryos and doubles the rate of conception in IVF (IVF). This is a turning point that brings opportunities for thousands of women.
The study was conducted on 115 patients from Colorador Reproductive Medicine Center (USA). The embryos are located in the US lab, but the cell test is sent to Oxford University in England for analysis.
According to DailyMail , the new test technique allows doctors to separate several cells from embryos when new embryos are several days old, analyzing whether the embryo is normal on chromosomes, from which the doctor will choose the best embryo to implanted in the womb of the mother.
In the trial, 66% of women became pregnant after screening, twice the normal IVF success rate of 28%.
It is particularly encouraging that many of these women are at the " last chance " stage to do IVF, especially those who are 39 years old, have failed with IVF twice.
Successful embryos are implanted in more than two-thirds of cases, and more than 80% of them give birth to live babies.
This result is about 3 times higher than the conventional IVF technique in the UK, with the rate of successful births of babies being only 25 to 30%.
He developed this technique, Dr. Dagan Wells from Oxford University, described the achievement as " amazing ." Dr. Wells said he hoped his test could become standard in both private and public hospitals.
