Accordingly, the main cause of fumes and explosions in this "death hole" is due to the broken cable section during the construction of the water supply pipe and the possibility of the influence of the storm surge. causing electric shock problems, creating electric arc phenomenon, generating a large heat source causing localized explosions and fire.

Through analysis of gas samples in the pit after the explosion, authorities discovered that there is an unusually high concentration of methane (0.2 - 2%). Therefore, it is not excluded the possibility of afterburner explosion due to high concentration of methane gas in the fire pit.
