Brugghús Steðja teamed up with Hvalur whale to launch the project to keep up the festival of honoring Thor in Torrablst in the middle of this winter.

The brewery owner, Dabjartur Arilmusson said: "This is a unique, protein rich, and almost fat-free beer in it." The producer said they would not put sugar in the beer and that would be a healthy drink.

He also added that some people may not like it and there will be certain risks. The manufacturer is aware of this but they believe that this new initiative will be accepted.

Environmentalists say it is a threat to gray-backed whales in the face of extinction.

Leader of the gray-back whale conservation campaign, Vanessa Williams said: " The demand for gray-back whale meat is declining sharply and fewer and fewer people use this type of meat. But the use of gray whales for beer production is very unethical and barbaric. '

"For breweries, this is just an instant novelty, but it is a threat to the life of a whale that is 90 years old."
