The secret of extending life

Picture 1 of The secret of extending life American biologists believe that flies possess two special genes that help them reverse the biological clock and prolong life.

For more living organisms, the number of births decreases. However, for many flies this is not true. Two biologists from the University of Southern California (USA) analyzed 8,000 flies genes to find a gene that could help older flies lay more eggs.

They found two such genes. After activating one of the two genes in some flies, the team found that they lived longer than the average life expectancy of about 5-30% and laid more eggs.

John Tower, one of the two researchers, said that the two genes above stimulate the activity of stem cells in the reproductive system of flies. Stem cell activity decreases with age. Therefore, the old fly cannot lay eggs if stem cell activity is not restored. 'It seems that these two genes stimulate stem cells more than once in the old fly, so they produce more children,' John said.

The two scientists said they will continue to find out if stem cells in other parts of the body are capable of restoring activity. If that happens, one can treat the other two genes as the elixir of flies. One of the two genes also exists in the human body. It helps cells and blood vessels grow.

However, the team has not confirmed the same thing that can happen in humans and mammals. 'At least our findings help scientists know that the two genes make females lay more eggs and live longer. Therefore, the negative relationship between the number of births and life expectancy is not absolute truth, ' John Tower said.
