The US issued a warning about parasitic worms that could get into the human brain

The Hawaii Health Authority (USA) has just issued a warning to visitors about parasites that can be cut and burrowed into the human brain, causing brain inflammation and in the worst case of death.

Three new cases have just been recorded in Hawaii, making the city's secret agency unable to ignore it. One of them has been infected since last December after swallowing a snail because of a challenge. The other two cases were affected this year, suspicious due to eating freshly harvested salads and vegetables.

According to statistics, in 2017 there are 17 cases of this type of parasite infection, 10 cases in 2018 and this year, up to this time there have been 5 cases.

Snails or snails and molluscs are the intermediate hosts of this parasite.

The parasite called Angiostrongylus cantonensis parasites in the rat lungs, where they spawn and proliferate as the "culprit" leading to the above cases. Some larvae after leaving the egg will enter the throat of the rat, then be swallowed into the digestive system and finally go out into the environment when the animal goes 'defecation'.

Snails or snails and molluscs are the intermediate hosts of this parasite. If you accidentally eat them, or eat vegetables that are infected by snails, humans will be infected.

Similar to mice, the larvae entering the body will find their way to the brain, where the central nervous system is located. Here, larvae will often die and cause encephalitis. Depending on the situation, the symptoms may vary, but the symptoms include headache, stiff neck syndrome, tingling itching, low-grade fever, nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, infection can lead to nerve damage, paralysis, coma and even death.

Diagnosis of infection is complicated because there is no blood test that helps detect parasites. Cerebrospinal fluid sampling is a way to help find the parasite's DNA. Currently, there is no specific treatment regimen and if survived, patients often suffer from neurological sequelae. Prevention is the best way that experts recommend, such as cooking and thoroughly cooking vegetables before eating, not eating live animals .
