There will be a 2-sided Blu-ray recorder in August

BenQ, Taiwan's leading maker of cell phones and computer components, will launch its first Blu-ray burner in August. However, its retail price will not be less than 1000 USD.

Called the BW1000, this recorder is equipped with 3 laser beams to "handle" various formats, from DVD, CD to Blu-ray. In addition, it can burn Blu-ray discs both on one side and two sides.

The Blu-ray DVD single-sided can store up to 25GB capacity, while the double-sided disc reaches 50GB. To make it easier to understand, even a single-sided Blu-ray disc can store up to 2 hours of high-definition video, or 13 hours of standard definition video.

Equipped with Precision Tilt Control System, this burner prevents vibration, signal interference and irregularities during recording. The SolidBurn feature automatically adjusts settings to optimize the final "output".
The world's first Blu-ray burner, the BDR-101A was shipped from Pioneer earlier this summer, however, it can only record single-sided discs. Last week, Primera Technologies also announced a Blu-ray DVD burning system with the ability to record up to 50 discs / time and a retail price of $ 5295.

However, some experts say that dual-sided recording is not really important for a large number of users.

Van Baker, a Gartner expert, said that the vast majority of users have never even used a standard two-sided DVD, since its cost compared to one-sided DVDs is too expensive.

Because of this, Baker said the demand for such high-end recorders was "very small", though it was a good sign for Blu-ray supporters.
