The most dangerous position is actually in the rear rows.

The study was conducted by IIHS (Highway Safety Insurance Institute) of the United States, in order to understand the safety level of passengers in the rear row seat to suffer when an accident occurs. The results showed that the person in the back seat had a higher risk of injury, even death than the driver's seat and side seat.

And of course, everything has a reason. As explained by IIHS, automobile manufacturers have put a lot of enthusiasm to improve safety for the front seats - including new airbag technology, seat belt quality . Meanwhile, The rear seats do not receive adequate attention. According to their research, the ability of rear seat belt restraint is somewhat inferior.

"Manufacturers have worked hard to protect the driver and the front seats." - David Harkey, director of IIHS said.

The study conducted a survey of 117 accidents, in which the people in the backseat all died or were seriously injured. The results showed that in many cases, rear seat passengers suffered greater damage, indicating a difference in safety between the two rows of seats.

Harkey said the study's conclusion could prompt manufacturers to improve the safety of the rear seats. For example, the force limit of seat belts can be raised, or an airbag is installed at the rear. However, it is not technology that can be done overnight.
