Too lazy to wear clothes? Don't worry, there are robots doing it for you
In the age of technology development as the current storm, the robot and robot replacement we do everything is not far away.
However, it does not always bring negative effects to our lives. There are robots that can cook, clean and even ironing the owner's clothes. Sadly, we still have to "mobilize ourselves" wearing clothes for people because machines are still too clumsy to help us. Even so, the prospect of robots playing the role of a nanny "to take down the teeth" , wearing clothes for people will not be far away.
Scientists at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, are developing a robot model called PR2 that can help patients wear clothes. Although this project is only in its infancy - robots can only wear a hospital gown for the testers - but the technology behind it is really impressive.
Robot named PR2 has the ability to assist patients in dressing.
"We have been teaching PR2 about how people feel getting support from it. From there, this robot can capture the psychology and action of the person it is assisting. When doing the experiment, We have observed the behavior of the robot and it has been able to pull the patient's uniform onto all the tester's arms and minimize the rate of clothes getting stuck, "said Zackory Erickson, the leader of the research team. The robot has learned how to wear clothes for humans thanks to the virtual simulation technology of realistic movements, and it has to go through thousands of training sessions to be able to do so well and quickly. From mistakes, such as when clothes get entangled on people, new PR2 robots learn to avoid them again. In addition, it is less of a nuisance for researchers and volunteers to join, because they won't have to endure this robot failure thousands of times. These simulations will help the neural network of robots improve their skills, calculating the level of force needed to wear clothes for people.
Instead of using computer vision to observe, the robot will rely on tactile feedback to predict the necessary actions to limit the clothes caught back into the host's body. This method is especially effective because it is worn over the body, clothes often cover the body part of the wearer, leading to the situation where it is difficult for the robot to observe the parts and determine the deviation.
Dressing support robots promise to bring practical applications to the health sector.
Professor Charlie Kemp said: "Clothing-assisted robots promise to bring practical applications to the health sector. We have achieved certain steps, but there are still many aspects that need to be kept forever. and further, though, we can expect a future of PR2 to become popular in health facilities, hospitals, etc. ".
Currently, scientists are continuing to study more applications for PR2 robots to support shoes, T-shirts, cardigan sweaters, etc.
