With a capacity of 17GB / class, the 51GB HD DVD 3-layer disc has exceeded the maximum capacity of dual-layer Blu-ray Disc (50GB), Toshiba said. The company is expected to begin mass production of new HD DVD discs in the fourth quarter of this year.
Toshiba also said that there are about 250 HD DVD titles available on the market, and this year, the number of movies produced in this format will double.
