Toyota showcases robots

Yesterday, (6/6) in Tokyo, Toyota has demonstrated a robot capable of playing violins. It is a 1.54m high white robot that can use the machine's fingers to accurately tap the strings, and the other hand to pull the "Pomp and Circumstance" playing board .

Toyota president Katsuaki Watanabe said the robot would be the company's main business in the coming years. Toyota will test its robots in hospitals, research facilities, as well as several other locations next year. And the company hopes to put the concept of "partner robot" into use in 2010.

"We want to create useful robots for everyone in our daily lives," said Katsuaki Watanabe.

Watanabe and other officials have agreed that robots are a natural extension of the use of robots in the field of automobile manufacturing, as well as the development of automated technologies involving artificial intelligence, such as sensors and safety warning systems. Watanabe also offers a futuristic perspective in which mobile robots are capable of caring for the elderly and sick.

It is known that the Japanese government has recently made moves to promote the field of robotics by encouraging companies and researchers to turn the sector into a national business.

In the field of robot production, Toyota is still the next if compared with the " giants " in the country such as Honda Motor, Hitachi, Fujitsu and NEC.
