Two farmers grew a giant pumpkin weighing more than 1000kg.

A giant pumpkin weighing more than 1,000kg has broken the UK record. It was so big it needed a forklift to put on the scales at an exhibition.

Twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, 63, spent three hours a day for three months tending to the giant pumpkin, which weighed 1,198.2kg, in Lymington, Hamps, England.

On September 26, they carefully drove four and a half hours to the Malvern Autumn Show in the hope of being crowned the "world's heaviest pumpkin".

Unfortunately they fell short of the world record of 1247kg but were delighted to set a new British record.

'It took a lot of hard work and dedication,' Ian said . 'My twin brother and I spent three hours a day for three months looking after him.

We carefully placed it in the back of a large Volvo and drove at about 50 miles per hour. You'll definitely get some strange looks from other drivers.

Some people stopped their cars on the road and then followed you to get a closer look. They shouted "is it real?" and we shouted back "yes"".

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the Worcestershire town to see some of the giant greens from September 27 and over the weekend.

Professional growers have begun displaying their fruit and vegetables as the UK Giant Fruit and Vegetable Championships kick off.
