Two-layer Blu-ray DVD ... until June
On May 6, Sony officially announced the delay of the release of the two-layer Blu-ray DVD to June.
On the same day, Sony announced it had begun offering a single-layer Blu-ray DVD with 25GB of storage.
Deciding to delay the launch of Sony's dual-layer Blu-ray DVD will coincide with the time when Samsung launched the first Blu-ray DVD player, expected June 20.
Single-layer Blu-ray discs will also feature Sony's proprietary AccuCORE technology that will make Sony's discs protected from scratches, damage, moisture and data recording more stable.
The 25GB single Blu-ray DVD (BD-R) and the burnable Blu-ray DVD (BD-RE) with the same capacity will be sold for $ 20 and $ 25 respectively. BD-R 50GB and BD-RE 50GB discs will cost $ 48 and $ 60.
Sony's Blu-ray Disc category will support 2x recording and data transfer speeds up to 72Mbps.
Sony also plans to offer a range of Blu-ray DVD support devices such as Blu-ray DVD players, laptops with Blu-ray DVD drives .
