Use pigeons to track pollution
The research team at the University of California in Irvine (USA) will use 20 pigeons to monitor air pollution in San Jose, California.
Each bird will be worn on a special backpack, which contains a GPS satellite receiver, air pollution sensors and a mobile phone.
Air quality data will be sent automatically by text message to a special blog on the Internet, while images are transmitted from above through a tiny video camera worn in the chest of birds. These birds will be released into the sky to perform the task on August 5-8.
