Using lots of lipstick makes women lose intelligence?

A scientific study found that 55% of lipstick products contain lead that can affect mental health and intelligence of users.

Underwriters Laboratories, an advisory firm for safety in the United States, conducted chemical analysis of 22 popular lipstick products in the country. Results showed that 12/22 (about 55%) of tested lipstick products contained lead content of 3.22 parts per million.

'According to the scientific evidence we know, even the lowest level of lead can harm your IQ, behavior and receptive ability, Dr. Sean Palfrey, Medical director of Boston Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, commenting on research results.

The amount of lead in cosmetics can cause IQ to decrease.

Many activists opposing the use of lead in cosmetics also put pressure on the protection of children and pregnant women from lead-based makeup products.

However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not yet have a set of standards for maximum lead content in lipstick products and allows manufacturers to make their own decisions based on their safety tests. .

Lead is not intentionally included in lipstick products, but many colors are based on lead. In addition, lead exists naturally in soil, water and air that can infect lipstick during production. However, activists for safe cosmetics believe that companies can completely produce lead-free cosmetics.

Janet Nudelman, a member of the campaign for safe cosmetics, said: 'Clearly, more than half of lipstick products tested contain lead metals, but half of them do not contain. That suggests that manufacturers can create lead-free products'.
