Vehicles die constantly when running on methanol gasoline

The results of a 15% methanol gasoline-powered motorcycle test published today show that the car engine has higher temperatures and continuous death.

The Hanoi Quality Measurement Standards Department is experimenting on Honda Dream II with two comparable gasoline models: standard RON 92 petrol; and gasoline including 85% standard with 15% methanol calculated on volume. The trial period is 60 minutes.

Scientists experimented with driving methanol in no-load mode, without cooling the engine, draining all available gasoline in the car, pouring 1 liter of gasoline mixed with 15% methanol into the tank.

Start the engine in the cold state (by ambient temperature) and monitor and record the temperature at the location where the temperature probe is mounted every 10 minutes.

When tracking for nearly 50 minutes, the engine operates unstable, constantly dies, must restart and up to 60 minutes, the machine will die completely, cannot restart, it must stop experimenting.

The results of the body temperature comparison showed that, in the first minute, gasoline mixed with methanol had a temperature of 21.2 degrees, while standard gasoline 19.8 degrees C. 40 minutes, respectively, 58.1 and 51.3. By 60 minutes, gasoline methanol is 67.6 and standard gasoline is 60.9 degrees C.

According to Mr. Pham Trung Chinh, Director of the above Department, with the condition of no-load operation, the temperature at the engine body when operating with 15% methanol gasoline increased by 10% compared to standard gasoline operation.

"Operating without load with methanol phase gasoline for about 50 minutes, the engine operates unstable and continuously dies , " Mr. Chinh said.

Methanol is a colorless, well-evaporated, high-flammable substance, suitable for fuel for internal combustion engines. The two main uses are direct or mixed with gasoline. However, the use of methanol as a fuel in the world is decreasing. In the US, the permissible phase rate is very low, some states prohibit mixing methanol into gasoline. China's Shanxi Province allows gasoline to produce 15% methanol.

In recent years, many motorbike and car burning cases have continuously caused consumers to worry that gasoline does not guarantee quality, mixing additives or impurities is a cause of vehicle fire. However, scientists believe that car fire is due to many factors, need to check specific inspection to come to a conclusion.

Previously, in Hanoi, the Directorate for Standards and Quality discovered a gasoline selling site with a methanol content of up to 15.3% by volume. Most experts say, this is too high a rate. This will increase the likelihood of fire, a higher risk of explosion.

Methanol is considered an additive in gasoline. If the business units want to sell this substance, they must ask for permission and get approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
