Vietnam isolated bone marrow stem cells

After nearly 10 years of research, Vietnamese scientists have officially announced the isolation and culture of root canal stem cell proliferation. The following is an interview with Dr. Tran Le Bao Ha, research leader, around this study.

Please share the joy with her and her colleagues at the Stem Cell Research and Application Laboratory of Ho Chi Minh City National University of Science - National University. Can you tell readers the concept of root canal stem cells?

- Dr. Tran Le Bao Ha: Just understand this way: Stem cells are cells that exist in embryos, fetuses, appendages of the fetus or adult body, are able to proliferate and differentiate into different cells specialized cells. In it, root canal is tissue rich in stem cells, able to differentiate into hard tissue-forming cells, nerve cells, fat cells . after injury.

Does it mean that root canal stem cells will help us to create real teeth that replace teeth that must be removed because of damage?

- Right. Tissue engineering involves the creation of functional tissues that can replace lost or damaged tissue. This can be done by cell culture in a pore-shaped support frame to create the desired size and shape structure.

As far as I know, in 2003, the United States and Australia discovered in the pulp of a child with the loss of children with differentiated stem cells. So, have there been countries before us?

- Right. Since 2000 until now, many scientists have been interested in root canal stem cells. Initially for animal root canal stem cells, then human teeth and all are still in the process of further research. Our work is not new to the world but there have been some changes in research methods and this is the first project of Vietnam related to this issue. Only when root canal stem cells are isolated, we hope to establish a stem cell bank to use, not relying on foreign purchases. Besides, if you can buy from abroad, surely the patient will bear very high costs. We have also been doing research since 2002 and now it is successful.

So, at this point, have you thought about establishing this bank?

- In a short time, Vietnam will have a root canal stem cell bank.

I have concerns about her and the cells that separate cells from removed teeth at dental facilities. According to the conventional way of thinking, people's teeth are removed. So regenerating new teeth from these cells will we get real and healthy teeth?

- Yes. Saying that teeth are removed from dental facilities, they are not ill teeth. Many people have to remove the healthy teeth due to deviation or aesthetic (orthodontic). If this is a good tooth source, it is very wasteful, why don't we use it?

But ma'am, when is the patient hoping to use this root canal 'made in Vietnam' source?

- In the near future. We will continue to research to be able to apply treatment to patients as soon as possible. In the immediate future, we will transplant ourselves. This means that if a person has a tooth disease, when he or she is treated, people will have all the pulp removed, so the tooth is still there but it seems dead and will tarnish. We transplant marrow cells from their own teeth, then this tooth will resurrect with the original bright colors. And according to the Ministry of Health, the need for dental treatment for the people is very high and urgent because we have about 80% - 90% of primary students suffer from dental diseases such as tooth decay, inflammation around the teeth; This rate in elementary school students is 60% -70%.

The pulp is a rich source of stem cells. The study of stem cells from baby teeth is still at dawn but not too far away, they will be very effective in repairing important organs in the body and help to avoid the risk of rejection in materials. transplant method.

Some important milestones in the study of root canal stem cells

- 2003: The US and Australia discovered in the root canal of children aged 7-8 months the presence of stem cells and concluded that the baby teeth could create an ideal stockpile of stem cells to Fix damaged tooth structure.

- 2006: The US successfully recreated laboratory pig teeth from stem cells of wisdom teeth in humans.

- 2007: Japan has differentiated stem cells from human's forbidden teeth.
