Vietnamese-based scientist turns rat heart into human heart

From the heart of a mouse, a Vietnamese-based scientist in Sweden and colleagues found a way to create a small human heart.

In a seminar on the Basic Cardiology of the American Heart Association in Portland, Oregon, USA on July 13, researchers in Sweden presented the technique of turning rat heart into human heart.

This breakthrough will make it easier to conduct studies of heart disease.

The team used a heart they took from mice, then pumped a special solution into the veins and arteries of the heart. The effect of the solution allows the team to take out all the cells, leaving only the frame.

Although the cells were lost, the frame still contained all the proteins and collagen. The valves and 4 chambers of the heart are also intact.

They then inserted human cells into the rat heart frame and circulated blood throughout the heart to stimulate cardiac contractility.

Thanks to their efforts, frames and cells develop into small human hearts. Follow-up results with a tomography scan showed that the blood vessels and heart valves worked normally.

"The development of organ organs from rat organs will bring high quality specimens to basic scientific research and pharmaceutical applications , " said Dr. Duong Nguyen.
